The reversible automatic self-aligning idler is a belt correction device for conveyors. It consists of a base, rotating support, support rollers, frame, side brackets, and left/right symmetrical, separate carrying idlers and damping idlers with upper generatrices on the same plane.

Belt misalignment or snaking during industrial conveying requires correction. Self-aligning idlers are commonly used. Some existing designs may over-rotate, hindering proper realignment.

Working Principle

The idler utilizes friction between two curved rollers and friction plates fixed on the idler frame to cause frame rotation. Belt misalignment contacts the curved rollers, generating friction that rotates the frame to the required angle for alignment.

Factors Affecting Self-aligning Idler Lifespan

1. Internal structure is key; Poor sealing: Ineffective waterproofing/dustproofing. Dust and water are major failure causes.

2. Poor shaft straightness: Cold-drawn shafts can have dimensional instability/bending, affecting bearing alignment, increasing resistance, shortening life.

3. Irregular or misaligned bearing housings after welding cause bearing misalignment, increased friction, poor rotation.

4. Harsh mining conditions typically limit friction self-aligning idler lifespan to ~15,000 hours.
